World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) and the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (PBIR) are proud to announce they have aligned for the PBIR 2022 National Tour. This collaboration will offer exemptions to the 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) and the 2022 Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo.
“We are thrilled to partner with the most legendary and historic touring African American rodeo showcasing Black cowboys and cowgirls,” said WCRA Rodeo President Bobby Mote. “BPIR athletes now have a unique opportunity and improved pathway to earn points and qualify to WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo events.”
Breakaway ropers and barrel racers competing in in the BPIR who have earned the most VRQ points in the BPIR Series at the conclusion of the May 13-14 BPIR Fort Worth event will earn an exemption to the 2022 WRWC.
BPIR athletes will also have the opportunity to compete in the 2022 Cowtown Christmas Championship. Athletes who have earned the most VRQ points in the BPIR Series at the conclusion of the 2022 BPIR Finals Rodeo will earn an exemption to the 2022 Cowtown Christmas Championship in all disciplines minus saddle bronc riding.
As a WCRA Silver Alliance, BPIR events will offer Division four (D4) points along with expanded points up to 10 in the paid rounds for all 2022 BPIR events. All athletes who choose to participate, are required to nominate their efforts towards the 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Championship (W22) or the 2022 Rodeo Corpus Christi (RC22) segment. The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo celebrates and honor Black Cowboys and Cowgirls and their contributions to building the west. We highlight the irrefutable global appeal of Black Cowboys and Cowgirls in the West and the stories behind a sub-culture that is still strong today. BPIR also serves as a cultural event and opportunity for families to enjoy and embrace the cowboy culture, while being educated and entertained with reenactments, history highlights, and western adventure. Since launching in May of 2018, the WCRA and its partners have awarded more than $10,860,000 in new money to rodeo athletes.
Nominations are now open for WCRA’s next Major rodeo- Rodeo Corpus Christi May 11-14. Athletes are eligible to nominate their competitive efforts in the Virtual Rodeo Qualifier (VRQ) until April 10 to earn a spot in the $550,000 event.
